Dog Days Begin (July 3)

The Dog Days (a period of 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11) are named for the Dog Star, Sirius, which is visible with the rising Sun at this time of year. Ancients associated this sky picture with the hot days that coincided with it. Sirius is the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (Greater Dog).

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

The Plight Of The People - Do We Really Care?

Coming next: My article about Burma, the plight of the people. I have not been able to get their dire circumstances out of my mind. Yet, I feel so deeply that the outcome will lie heavily on the shoulders of the rest of the world. As it usually does. Should we, as the western world, accept the Burmese governments decision? The USA will probably not get involved…no vested interest there.

I have a suspicion that the humanitarian involvement of the USA is in strict relationship to their vested interest in the immediate region.

About The Video From Author: This is a video I made for 9/11 which is a terrible tragedy even for French people as far as I know, I came home from School, I turn on the TV and directly from New York, I saw the first plane being crashed into one of the tower. I was shocked. Really. It’s hard to lose someone you love in a way that person doesn’t deserve. Lets all take a minute of silence for all those who risk their lives and those who lost it.

(I didn’t made the song, I made the video, my dad didn’t die and this voice isn’t mine.)

Guest Article - Thoughts For The New Year,
By Darlene Siddons

“One resolution I have made, and try always to keep, is this: To rise above the little things.” -John Burroughs-

Here we are a few days into the New Year, and most of us are still looking at our list of resolutions and seeing if we can mark any off as completed. Now that is if you put some sort term goals on there, I always but at least three short term goals on my list as I love to cross items off of my lists, it makes me feel like I have accomplished something and that gives me fuel to continue on.
